Drinking water on an empty stomach immediately after waking up is the usual ritual of most Japanese women. This is the reason why weight issues are very rarely found in Japanese women.
This the first thing the Japanese do when they wake up. However, similar tradition known as Usha paana chikitsa is also practiced in India.

1. Our kidneys can only process 800 to 1000ml of water per hour
2. Hyponatremia can develop when blood streams sodium levels lower to an unhealthy level.
3. Over drinking can lead to swelling in the brain if the cells do not expand with ease and can lead to coma or death.
Drinking too much of water and not drinking enough water is both harmful for health.
There are still no known side effects of Japanese water therapy as of now.
